History of the Canton Chamber Main Street Association
The original Chamber serving the City of Canton was the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1921, which had offices in the Canton City Hall. The county Chamber represented each town in the county. In August 1990, a group of Canton professional and business people formed the Canton First Organization, and the Canton Main Street Program. As the Madison County Chamber of Commerce reorganized and shifted their emphasis to countywide development in 1991, the members of Canton First, Canton Main Street and the Canton Council of the Madison County Chamber merged to form the Canton Chamber of Commerce Main Street Association.
The focus of the citizens who organized the Canton Chamber Main Street Association was to bring all of the organizations together for the betterment of Canton and to unite our efforts to make Canton better in every way. The formation of this Association was done during a unique time in Canton’s history by great people with a positive unified vision. ~ Morris Taylor, Past President
